What is a long-term trip and its insurance?

In terms of insurance and guarantees, a trip is considered to be "long-term" if it lasts more than three months. Most companies offer specific guarantees for stays of 1 to 90 days, while others offer more complete insurance covering more risks from day 91. It is no coincidence that long-term travel insurance, also known as international travel insurance, must be able to replace Social Security, whose rights lapse after 90 days outside the national territory. Long-term travel insurance must therefore offer sufficient cover to replace the benefits of the health insurance system.

Long-term travel insurance: guarantees

As specialists in insurance brokerage, our experts will be able to recommend the most suitable solution for your situation. You can opt for long-term travel insurance, which is active from day 91 (or even day 61 for some companies) to minimize the risks and carry out your assignment without worrying about the financial consequences of unforeseen events. This insurance cover is made up of several guarantees:

  • Medical cover to reimburse your employees for health expenses incurred abroad;
  • Repatriation of the beneficiary, whether due to his/her state of health or the death of a relative in the country of origin;
  • International civil liability insurance, for compensation to a third party in the event of damage caused;
  • Legal assistance for obtaining advice from lawyers or for paying their fees;
  • Luggage insurance, if your luggage arrives late or is lost (compensation for lost personal effects, etc.);
  • Cancellation insurance, etc.

Long-term travel insurance for peace of mind

As you can see, long-term travel insurance is essential for effectively covering your employees who are out of the country for more than 90 days. Without it (apart from affiliation to the Caisse des Français de l'Étranger), they will not be able to obtain reimbursement of their medical expenses. In addition, each unforeseen event (damage to a third party, loss of personal belongings, etc.) will mean an expense without compensation.
